Andrews has done it again I love romance, mystery, dysfunctional families, drama You get it all.I was so happy to read Conley and Skelly s story I loved the whole newspaper and small town I can t get enough of Andrews books This one had mysteries on top of one another You are going to love the grandma and I just can t say enough about the whole stoary This ending was a perfect ending for this lazy summer read.5 stars and HIGHLY recommend this beach read The Mary Reader received this book from the publisher for review A favorable review was not required and all views expressed are our own. 4.5 starsNothing says Summer than a Mary Kay Andrews book I ve become a huge fan of hers and I still have her backlist to get through This is her newest story and its another winner.Conley quits her job to accept another one but things don t go as planned So she finds herself back in Silver Bay, her hometown Without a job and living again with her grandmother, she accepts a temporary job with her sister She runs the family owned business, The Silver Bay Beacon Conley ends up witnessing an accident that involves a local congressman From there, she wants to write the story, but soon finds scandals in the local town than she bargained for This book had everything mystery, family dynamics, a little romance, and along the way finding yourself If you re a fan, like myself, don t hesitate to pick this one up or if you haven t read MKA before, than I recommend giving her a try Thank you to Goodreads giveaway for an ARC in exchange for an honest review Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I have to admit that Mary Kay Andrews is one of my guilty pleasures She never disappoints Always a fun and entertaining read If I m in a book slump, she always draws me out And, you have to love an author who can fit in the word besmirching A bit of mystery, a bit of scandal, a bit of small town gossip, a bit of subtle humor and lots of small town drama Of course, the characters are perfect for a small town in the south Nothing else is necessary.A great book to brighten up a day or your week, or your month Thank you to NetGalley and St Martins Press for an advance copy in exchange for a review. This book has gotten many rave reviews on NetGalley so I requested it Sadly, I could not get interested in this story Just not for me I ve enjoyed other Mary Kay Andrew books so i will continue to read them DNF at 25% Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this book in exchange for my honest review. A fun summer story, set again in a beautiful locale It got a bit long for my tastes and covered too many topics in my opinion The characters were likable and the plot well written Overall, another fun one from MKA that made for a nice escape My thanks to the publisher for the advance reader in exchange for my honest review. It s been awhile since I read a MKA book and I ve missed them This has about every element you need for a good book including mystery, politics, family drama and a lil romance If you re looking for a good beach story to get lost in, whether you re on the beach or not, this one is for you Thanks so very much to the author for this early copy for review Thank you to Goodreads and St Martin s Press for this ARC.Most ARCs I read I find a few typos errors but I found a glaring one at that It didn t even mention the President in this scene and then all of a sudden she was shaking hands with him I know the VP was in the scene though This is only the 2nd book by this author I ve read and now I maybe need to read her others I m a big fan of family books as you know and this one didn t disappoint When I saw the title I thought it was another Summer book however, it was the title of the column written by one of the part time staff members who was a little batty and an old lady and wrote the column like a gossip column which I guess it was in a small town For a massive book of 657 pages, it was a fast moving book with a lot going on in the little town of Silver Bay, FL, where Conley s sister Grayson runs The Beacon newspaper, a family business Conley came from Atlanta and never thought she would want to work there She helped bring the newspaper with her sister into the 21st century, after it was losing customers I loved her G mama Lorraine and the newspaper staff and Winnie, the housekeeper who s been with them for generations I also loved the story of Conley and Sean Kelly Skelly and their past together and how they became friends once again.A lot of other things going on too like politics.I love epilogues of books and this one was a good one. I m a fan of Mary Kay Andrews and I enjoyed this latest one Conley gets fired as the publishing company is being downsized With no other viable prospects and the recent dumping of her boyfriend, she returns to her hometown to live with her aging grandmother and work at the local newspaper with her estranged sister, Grayson Reconnecting with a childhood friend, Conley struggles with the small town, her relationships, and her animosity with Grayson But when a local politician is found dead, now things heat up as there are layers of secrets and deception that Conley is determined to uncover It s a solid mystery with humor so this is a perfect summer read if you need a break from quarantine boredom Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC
