A classic police procedural Forsyth and Hay are a great team The third book of the intriguing Forsyth and Hay series “Measured for Murder” which I won through Goodreads Giveaways opens in 1998 in England where Detective Chief Inspector DCI Stephen Hay of Scotland Yard and his team are investigating the murder of a second young overweight female victim found naked a mark on her right hip Similar in appearance to Sophie Bouchard the young French Canadian tourist found strangled her body posed DCI Hay is sure that he’s dealing with a serial killer Frustrated as the case infringes on his planned trip to Paris with Liz Forsyth an RCMP Inspector who returned to Canada after their last case was solved uickly discovers that she’s being sent on a three week training course at the Bramshill Police Academy outside London In a move to keep her out of the clutches of her new Superintendent a vulgar lecher who’s gotten away with sexual misconduct it’s hoped that in the time away she’ll put in for a transfer to another division But Liz can't think of anything but her course and seeing Hay again never expecting that what she learns at the academy could help his caseFast paced and captivating Janet Brons weaves into the story an ambitious young journalist whose digging for information raises suspicion; an infuriated hostel owner; a psychic; and the Canadian High Commission in London to help bring the detectives closer to solving the mysterious deaths In a plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat the author even gives a glimpse into the murderer’s mind with a memory in his past that triggered his psychotic break Although the plot is interesting and credible as DCI Hay and his team follow up every lead it’s the characters who infuse this story with intensity suspense and drama Liz Forsyth of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police is duty oriented intelligent and perceptive using her newfound knowledge from the course to help bring new light to the facts while Detective Chief Inspector Hay is uncompromising clever and determined to find the killer before he can strike againAlthough short in length “Measured for Murder” does have twists that keep you guessing I liked it and would look for other books in the series Third mystery in series involving both Canadian RCMP Inspector Lyn Forsyth English DCI Stephen Hay police force personnel as well as the Canadian High Commission in London Forsyth ends up back in England for a 3 week course near London which allows for further development of a possible romantic relationship Hay ends up trying to solve the murders of a couple of overweight young women at least one of whom is Canadian Is there a serial killer at work As before some interesting observations about the politics of the police diplomatic worldsI wonder if there will be a 4th volume in this series The author now lives near Victoria in Sidney British Columbia A uick and enjoyable read if not a lot of depth Forsyth and Hay seem like they could be intriguing but there is not much development or evolution of their characters and Brons continues to only tease as to what might develop between them Perhaps like the characters themselves she is not sure where the relationship is going to go I thoroughly enjoyed Measured for Murder The plot is original interesting and timely and includes the diplomatic touch of a connection with the Canadian High Commission in London Inspector Forsyth and DCI Hay are a great team makes me wish they existed for real I highly recommend this book This is a Goodreads win This is the third book in the Forsyth and Hay mystery series If you liked the first two you will enjoy this Hopefully these two detectives will be an official couple in book four Loved it Enjoyable read A uick easy read Interesting to see the issue of societal expectations of women's bodies brought into a murder mystery And nice to see a kick ass woman or two
