It isn t a typical Regency romance, that s for sure.A romance here is something like in An Accomplished Woman and in Bath Tangle I really like this kind of a love story I think I will never be bored with such kind of relationship But, although a main scheme generally is predictable you know there would be a happy ending there were many surprises here There was even a moment that I wasn t so sure how it would end up.What differentiates this Regency romance from others that I like 1 Th It isn t a typical Regency romance, that s for sure.A romance here is something like in An Accomplished Woman and in Bath Tangle I really like this kind of a love story I think I will never be bored with such kind of relationship But, although a main scheme generally is predictable you know there would be a happy ending there were many surprises here There was even a moment that I wasn t so sure how it would end up.What differentiates this Regency romance from others that I like 1 There is rather little humor, I mean a typical humor in such books But there are witty political observations.2 There is a lot of politics here Discussion between Whigs and Tories, opinions, political games and so on.If you don t like to read of politics you will be bored I think you will even dislike this novel But if you like to read about it from time to time, if you understand it at least a little I think you will be thrilled like I was I hadn t known a plot when I started to read It was really refreshing for me, something different and surprising. For me this book is about 1 The difference between infatuation and love It is showed here very well, engagingly and aptlyIt is infatuation that is blind Love sees the flaws only too clearly, but goes on caring just the same, in spite of all, 2 Politic games in the Regency era.So, for me it is one of the best novels by Joan Smith I see here a deep knowledge and a wide research of the era, with a nicely added love story One of the most annoying heroines of Joan Smith I think Madeline s main problem is her oversized ego She s shallow and loves to be treated like queen Deaf to any advice given and blind to all of her own flaws I really admire and wonder at the hero s patience with her The story was average at best, but I may be biased because it s the good characters that constitute a good book for me If it comes to politics, Joan Smith s Sweet an twenty was a muchfun to read. A change of pace for Joan Smith This is a Regency romance, but her protagonist is no 17 year old innocent Lady Madeline has been asked twice to marry Lord Eskott She is having too much fun taking a young man under her wing and setting him up in politics Not a frothy little bubble, not a fun loving twirl, but a serious discussion of politics and a little bit of romance I like the first kind better. Meh Maybe had the heroine beenlikable, I might have enjoyed this .
