Very impressed with the writing talent of Caroline Woodward I'd argue that her first foray into novel writing was successful than several novels written by adults for the YA genre The historic research and detail in the novel is top notch and of the three Leaders and Legacies novels I've read I have to say this was the most detailed I especially appreciated the factual content included at the end of the novelAs with the first two this novel had me hitting Google and other uick searches while reading looking for information I was admittedly a bit puzzled as to why the novel focused on whisky running in 1950 long after prohibition ended in Ontario and the USA but much to my surprise there were many many valid reasons as to why a black market for liuor existed in 1950 and still does today in Ontario The story was action packed and interesting but again being a YA novel some of the depth for the subjects covered was limited It's a great starting point to provoke interest in the subject This series is a bit underrated as it seems like no one really knows much about it It's one that holds my interest as an adult despite the writing being geared for readers half my age It's definitely a series that will assist in getting one interested in the fantastic history Canada has Pleased with the calibre of writing making this story much than I'd expected A win from the 6th Canadian Reading Challenge it arrived promptly and I dove into the story as promptlyAdventure action mystery and youthful characters that showed intelligence and fortitude impressiveAlthough billed as an adventure of a former Canadian Prime Minister this is purely fiction using his family background of summers spent in the area of Windsor OntarioCOngrats to the author Caroline Woodward on an exceptional bookMany thanks to the publishers for offering this book as a prize and to John for hosting this annual challenge I was thoroughly impressed with this novel Caroline Woodward is in her teens yet has managed to write an engaging children's book The characters are well formed the mystery is thought out well and children will love to follow along with Paul and his friends as they figure out the mysteryIt also contains historical background of the Windsor area and a discussion of Aboriginal rights Excellent first novelI received this book through the Goodreads FirstReads program A great read and not just because it takes place around the area where I am fromIt has some history in it some social commentary and it is an easy read for both kids and adultsKudos to Woodward for writing her first book so young Great job keep it up YA fiction with Paul Martin as the protagonist Would recommend to young readers
